About Me:
I am Divinity's Hummingbird.
I was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but my mother brought me to Hollywood, CA when I was 2-years-old.
I couldn't be more grateful to her for making that choice.
I grew up going to school in Hollywood, surfing in Santa Monica, and dancing all over the world. Some of my fondest summertime memories are of spending time in Oneonta, Alabama with my grandparents and my maternal relations, and of traveling with neighborhood friends to Guadalajara, Mexico. I lived in Germany for a few years when my sons were babies and traveled all over Europe. I've been in and out of Brasil for the last 12 years dancing and working on my project. Bahia has always felt like home.
I grew up dancing - ballet from 3 to 11 (when I locked myself in my closet with a loaf of bread and a six-pack of Coca-Cola and said, “No more!”), West African and Salsa until 18, and Afro-Brasilian and Samba for the last 16 years …the dance is in my blood.
There are so many stories that make up a life - so many stories that have made up this life - I never know where to begin … so I'll simply begin in the present moment.
I live 100% committed to growth, change, truth, love and doing my Divine Work in every moment. I've made my choices - some that have served my own highest, best, most creative life …and others that have served as hard, painful lessons. I'm now at a place where I've demoted my ego from CEO to Janitor and it feels really healthy …vulnerable making at times, but healthy. I feel I've done the best I could with the tools available to me in every moment and can now see that even the most painful choices were blessings in disguise.
My sons tell me I'm a bit of a “Spiritual Rogue” … I like it. They also gave me the “barefoot diva” nickname … they are my greatest gift and my most joyous work.
I haven't danced professionally for a while, but I will always dance. I'm fortunate to have a wealth of beautiful, creative beings, so I get to sing and dance quite a bit with friends.
I am a Spiritual Counselor, providing what I call “Right Relationship” Counseling - I help my clients clear their paths of the old wounds, misunderstandings, and junk that are keeping them from living 100% their highest, most Divinely successful lives.
I'm also a writer with a short story published in the Gumbo For the Soul anthology and two books I'm working toward having published.
I provide conscious, cost-effective Human Resources solutions for businesses as a consultant.
Finally - at least for the moment - I have created a non-profit organization in Brasil. It's called the Projeto de Habitação dos Desamparados da Bahia (The Bahia Homeless Housing Project) and it will create housing and educational facilities for homeless people in Bahia, Brasil (one of my other homes). PHDB is a holistic non-profit that will assist people in creating better lives for themselves - learning skills that will help them get jobs, education, even practicing yoga if they'd like - so that their mindset changes from that of someone in chronically homeless survival mode to that of someone fully committed to living their best life.
I suppose that is my real work on the planet - living my best life …and helping others to live their best life (whatever that means to them).
A few years ago, I went to the Ocean (as I often do) and asked her for a bit of wisdom. I was struggling with what to do next - I'd come to a crossroads …as Anais Nin wrote, the day came when the effort it took to bloom was less painful than the effort it took to remain tight in a bud. The Ocean said very simply, “See my dolphin, my pelican and my crow.” When I nodded, she asked me, “Do you believe that, when the pelican dives, it worries that it will not find food? Do you think that the dolphin worries that it won't have water to swim in? Do you believe the crow worries that it will not have wind to soar on?”
I'd not ever thought of it in those terms before.
The Ocean answered for me, “No, child …the dolphin, the pelican, the crow …they trust. They do their work without question, without more effort than is necessary, and they trust that the Divine will always provide for them …always.”
She went on, “Be my pelican - soar and dive without question or doubt that I will provide for you. Be my dolphin - swim knowing that you are always home with me, always safe. Be my crow - know that this world is yours and fly free.”
In closing, she said, “Simply be, my child. Breath, walk, live your truth and your love and simply be …and allow Divinity to move through you. Be my miraculous hummingbird …fly even though it's said to be impossible remembering, in every moment, that EVERYTHING is possible with Divinity.”
I am Divinity's Hummingbird.
